Tres Things Me Gusta About Cinco De Mayo

Uno. A Tasty Margarita

Image

My sister-in-law makes the best margarita.

This is her recipe:

1 – 2 parts (depending on how strong you want them) silver, 100% agave, tequila
1 part Cointreau
1 part fresh lime juice
  • You can pour the mixture over ice for on the rocks, chill it in a shaker with ice for straight up, or blend with ice for frozen.
Dos. Guacamole!

My sister-in-law also makes the best guacamole.
This is her recipe:
In a large bowl combine…
10 ripe avocados – halved, scooped, including pits (this helps keep it from browning).
4 plum tomatoes – chopped
1 sm – medium onion – chopped or diced, yellow, red, or white (depending on your preference).
1/2 cup diced jalapeno (fresh or pickled)
1 bunch cilantro – chopped
Fresh lime juice – about a 1/4 cup, to taste, but add in small amounts since the flavor can easily overpower the others (this also helps to keep it from browning).
1/8 cup olive oil (helps to keep it from browning as well).
Sea salt and pepper to taste

Mash everything together and serve it either chilled, or room temperature with your favorite corn chips, or veggies, for dipping.
Tres. A piñata
I mean, is there really anything more entertaining than blindfolded, intoxicated people waving a stick maniacally at a paper donkey?! I rest my case.

What’s Better Than Facebook?

Facebook has revolutionized birthdays. In fact, there are not many things better than getting hundreds of Happy Birthday messages from people near and far- from your best friends to your “friends” that you haven’t seen in 20 years.

Personally, I’m trying to step up my game with each Facebook birthday reminder because as much as I like the blanket HB2U, a Paperless Post card would be a little better.

What is better than Facebook and better than Paperless Post? Good old fashion snail mail. Who doesn’t like getting a letter with their address written in ink and not peeking through a glassine window demanding some form of payment?!

And even better than all of the above?! A care package.

For heavens sake, I’m not saying these ideas are for the people that you knew when you wore braces and haven’t seen since- the standard Facebook will do just fine for them.

Send that little package of joy and love to someone you really care about. You will absolutely make their day and an added bonus- it will make your day too!

Make a Plan!

When I set out to throw a party I have to start with a plan. The plan really depends on what kind of event it is and how much is involved. A kid’s party can require a lot of thinking and prep work while a dinner party with friends is generally a lot less complicated. Regardless of the party, I still think it helps to put your ideas and punch list down on paper.

I’m hosting a little birthday party for a friend this weekend. Lucky for me it’s going to be a potluck, so I won’t be spending all day cooking for 10.

Here is what I’ve got for Sunday…
